Uses, Challenges and Recommendations for the Application of City Greenhouse Gas Inventories in China

The accounting, reporting, analysis and application of GHG emissions in cities are consistent and complementary with each other. City level GHG inventories can help cities better understand their emissions and support low-carbon decision making. How to advance the drafting and application of GHG inventories in cities is a significant subject for local and national low-carbon development. Currently with China's research and practice focused on GHG accounting methods and drafting of specific inventories, little has been done in follow-up analysis and inventories outcome application. Therefore, WRI released Uses, Challenges and Recommendations for the Application of City Greenhouse Gas Inventories in China. The work paper identifies areas in which city-level GHG inventories can support decision making, analyzes reasons behind inadequate and difficult inventories application and presents recommendations.
